The representation of the “Galletto” has always characterized the decorated ceramics typical of Puglia and Salento in particular. But why is the “Galletto” the protagonist of decorations on pots and terracotta dishes? The reason is rooted in very remote times, but it is at the beginning of the twentieth century that it became a distinctive element. The “Galletto”, in fact, begins to be represented on everyday objects as a symbolic icon of fertility, being almost a “domestic animal” as it is very widespread in the rural world. There are those who have even made an amulet, considering the depiction of the “Galletto” on plates and tableware as an element capable of removing malign influence. For us at Nuova Colì the “Galletto” is home: we love traditions and, the “Galletto”, we have customized it making it a distinctive trait.
